FREUD Anna, (1895-1982), Austrian psychoanalyst. A pioneer in field of
child psychoanalysis; daughter of Sigmund Freud. Taught at Vienna' s Cottage Lyceum. Freud
moved to London in 1938 and founded Hampstead Child Therapy Clinic, a leading center for
the study of child development in 1947. Author of The Ego and the Mechanisms of Defense
(1937), Young Children in War Time (1942), Beyond the Best Interests of the
Child (1973).
