GÖDEL Kurt, (1906-1978). American mathematician, born in Austria.
Gödel was a Professor, at Vienna from 1930-1938 before moving to the United States in
1940. He was a member from 1938, and a professor from 1953-1976 at the Institute for
Advanced Study, Princeton, N.J.. In 1931 he discovered Gödel's proof of the impossibility
of rigorously self-consistent mathematical systems; Gödel wrote Consistency of the
Axiom of Choice (1940).
