GIDDENS, Anthony, professor of Sociology and Fellow of King's College, Cambridge until he became director of the London School of Economics in 1996. Giddens is also a director of the Polity Press. Wrote Critique of Historical Materialism Consequences of Modernity (1990), Beyond Left and Right (1994) and The Transformation of the Intimate Sphere (1995).
