Deleuze, Gilles (1925-1995). French philosopher who, together with Felix Guattari proposed that capitalism is a schizophrenic system. Deleuze and Guattari's analyses are post-Freudian and Post-Marxist . On the one hand , they argue the proletariat's victory is impossible because we are all slaves. On the other, they claim that the Oedipus complex is rather a socially colonializing mechanism rather than a psychic condition. They strongly opposed the fact that psychoanalysis had become a domineering insititution meant for social control.
The Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia I(1972); A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia II (1980); Rhizome: An Introduction (1978) are among their best-known works. A quarterly publication they started, ChimŠre, is now being produced by their followers and is available on the internet.
Deleuze worked extensively on a requestioning of philosophy providing enriching insights into Kant, Nietsche, Hume, Leibniz and others. He was against any kind of systematization of his ideas.
