BECK, Ulrich, German sociologist of risk and the environment. Professor of sociology at University of Munich, Beck wrote Risk Society (1986), Counterpoison (1991), Ecological Enlightenment (1992) and Ecological Politics in an Age of Risk (1994). He is also a regular contributor to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
