ALTHUSSER, Louis (1918-1990), French philosopher of structuralist Marxism. Active in Catholic youth organisations as
a young man. Captured in 1940 and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. Joined the
Communist Party in 1948. Taught philosophy at the Ecole normale superieure from 1948.
